The Lijiang River, connecting Guilin and Yangshuo, is one of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region province's main attractions. River trips offer views of extraordinary karst (limestone) mountains, sprays of bamboo lining the riverbanks, fishers in small rafts, and tranquil villages. The river's cormorant fishers in particular have become popular attractions for tourists making the trip downstream from Guilin, a small industrial city set among spectacular surroundings.
